“Chris!” I cry out his name. I’m in my bed, and something is wrong. My stomach is hurting, and every now and then I’ll get cramps that make me want to fall over and just die.
I roll onto my side trying to ease the pain. I suddenly curl when a cramp begins again. “Janet!” Chris exclaims, turning me to face him. I whimper softly, look up at him and cringe in pain.
“I think it’s time.” The words fall from my mouth without me thinking. Something is wrong with the baby. Weather it’s he or she wants to come out, or something is plain out wrong I don’t know. All I know is it’s not happy.
I grind my teeth together and listen to him mutter under his breath. “Just hang on Janet, everything will be okay.” He whispers. He rubs my hair from my face and lifts me from the bed.
The doctor steps into the room. She smiles, looks down at her clipboard and back up at me. She's a werewolf. I can tell by the yellow in her eyes.
“Your baby decided it’s time to come tonight. Your dilated at a eight. Are you ready to meet your baby?” She grins. I take in a deep breath, look throughout the room.
“No,” I croak, Josh isn’t here. My heart weighs heavy. Marianna, his mom is in the room. She’s beside me, rubbing my shoulder softly. I whimper as a contraction happens.
“We have to get the baby out now, Janet. It’s ready to go, and you can’t just force it to stay in there.” The doctor says. I feel like she’s talking to me as a sister. I gulp.
I look over at Marianna, my eyes starting to water. “He’ll be here.” She promises me, resting her hand on mine. I gulp, nod my head and look back at the doctor.
“Okay.” My voice is hoarse. I thought that I had a high pain tolerance until now. The doctor gives me a soft smile.
I take in deep breaths. I feel Marianna grip my hand. This is weird. I think behind all the chaos. The doctor looks up at me, gives me the okay to push.
And that’s what I do. Pain shoots throughout my body. I cry out. Never in my life was I prepared for something like this. Tears pour from my cheeks, I squeeze Marianna’s hand. She doesn’t act like she minds though.
My hair is sticking to my face, and my teeth clench as the pain gets worse. “One more big push for me, sweetheart.” The doctor says. I push, scream while I’m at it.
Suddenly all the pressure is released. I hear the sounds of an infant cry and my eyes open. Everything leading up to this moment seems completely worth it.
“You did great, baby.” The voice catches me off guard. I turn to look at the person. It’s not Marianna. She’s on my other side.
Josh is holding my hand, he looks distressed but there’s a huge smile on his face. He leans down, presses his lips against my sweaty forehead and pulls away.
“It’s a girl!” The doctor exclaims. She carefully hands over a little pink blanket. Inside was a baby, her hair is dark like her dads. I tiredly smile. I’m too happy for this moment.
I smile. I let out laughs of joy. The ones when your so excited you don’t know how to react. Those kinds.
“Hi, sweetheart” I whisper, I take in a deep breath. The baby lays there, makes a whimpering sound and breaths out. I can’t help but smile. Tears run down my face.
I sit there for awhile, taking it all in. I lift my gaze up to see Josh, he’s looking down at the two of us with the biggest smile I’d ever seen on his face. “Do you want to hold her?” I ask. Of course he does, idiot.
He carefully takes her from me, smiles and holds her close to his chest. I can’t help but watch the whole ordeal. Josh looks completely happy. So am I.
“What are you naming her?” The doctor asks, scribbling things down on her clipboard. Josh and I share this look.
We had gone over it almost a hundred and one different times. My lips curl into a huge smile,
“Evelyn Rodriguez.”
