“I really hope this works.”I mutter to myself as I exit the bathroom. I walk back to the ball room and try to find Ash. I stop when I run into someone’s chest and I look up slowly.
“Where were you?”Lorin asked, well practically demanded an answer.
“I was in the bathroom.”
He looked at bit relieved but still had an angry frown placed upon his face.”Stay with Ashley. The red moon is about to start so you need to stay close to her. Some people here will get out of control when it happens.”
“Okay.”I nod and looked over his shoulder, trying to look for Ash.”Where is she?”
“By the drinks table.”He says and I walk off but before I can walk off, he grabs my arm. My heart speeds up. He knows!”And Madeline, don’t try anything. I’m always watching you.”
“You have nothing to worry about.”I say and yank my arm out of his grip. My heart was still beating fast. I make my way to the drinks table and I spot Ashley.
“Oh, there you are. I thought you got lost.”She smiles, softly. A look of relief on her face.
“I kind of did at first.”I lied and wipe my sweaty hands on my dress.”When is it starting?”I gesture to the huge moon that you could see through the glass ceiling.
“In ten minutes. It’s starting to change color already.”I notice the bit of red starting to cover the moon. Ten more minutes and I’ll be out of here. Ten more minutes and I’ll see my children. Ten more minutes, I’ll be with my mate and my family.
Come on. Come on.
“Is Lorin going to be with us?”
“No. He likes to be right under the moon. This use to be a tradition that he shared with his parents.”She smiles, sadly. I nodded and mutter a soft, oh.”It’s starting!”
Everyone in the room freezes and then they suddenly walk to the middle of the room. Everyone is in a trance even Ashley walks to the middle of the room. They get a good look at the now red moon. A hand tugs on my arm. I look up to see Brant.
“We have to go. This is the best time. I have a car outside, waiting for us. Come on, Madeline.”He pulls me to the exit. I notice how he doesn’t even glance at the moon.
“Why aren’t you looking at the moon?”I question, curiously as he rushes me into a car.
“If you look at it, it will put you in a trance. You won’t want to look at anything but the moon. That’s why I’ll be wearing these.”He places a pair of black sunglasses over his eyes. The taps on the drivers shoulder and the car starts moving. It’s moving really fast like faster than a car should.”Put your seat-belt on.”
I quickly put my seat-belt on and lean back.”Is if necessary to go at this speed?”
“The faster we get out of here, the faster we’ll be able to get you back to Kyle.”A bit of hatred was in his voice but not the same as before.”I heard he’s been in a mess. He called every pack to be on the look for you.”
“I really miss him and the kids. I want to see them, badly.”I really did. I miss my babies.”What will happen to Lorin? Will he be after us?”
“I got that all sorted out with the council. He will not bother you unless he wants to spend the rest of his life in jail.”Brant sends me a smirk. I nod and take a deep breath, finally.
“Will I ever get a happy ending?”I whisper, looking out the window.”Ever since I was fifteen, my life has been a mess. Will everything be okay and I could be with Kyle and my kids?”
“You will have your happy ending, Madeline.”He smiles, softly at me. I nod and lean back, getting comfortable. My eyes slowly close and I’m drifting off to sleep.
“Madeline, wake up.”I feel someone shake my shoulders. I open my eyes and look at the person.”We’re here. Kyle doesn’t know that I brought you. I thought you’d want to make it a surprise.”
I grin and notice that the sun was up. I look out the window to see the pack house surrounded by forest. I smile and open the door, walking up the pathway to the front door of the pack house. I open the door and I’m greeted with quietness. I hear the faint sound of crying coming from upstairs. I walk up the stairs and into our room.
“Shh, baby. Mommy will be back soon.”I hear Kyle’s voice say. Sadness in his voice. He sounds like he wants to cry.
“But she never came back.”I hear Edwin cry.
“You told us that already. I want my mommy!”Sofia starts to cry, making my heart break. I open the door and smile, tears running down my face.
“I’m right here.”I kneel down as they come running into my arms. I grin and kiss their heads, crying. I look up to see Kyle staring at me with disbelief as he stands on his knees.
“You’re really here.”
“I’m here and I’m staying forever.”I whisper, knowing that he could hear me. Tears fall down his tired face and he comes over to us, wrapping his arms around the three of us. His presses his lips to my forehead as we all began to shed tears.
My family. I’m finally with my family.
—
“Mommy, when are we going to nana’s?”Edwin asked, sweetly. His big brown eyes looking up at me, his little face held confusion in it. I smiled down at him and picked him up, resting him on my hips.
“As soon as daddy and Sof come back from the store.”I cooed and watched as a small grin grew on his face. He leaned his head on my shoulder with his thumb in his mouth. My hand stroked up and down his little back as he took soft breaths.
“I miss Sof.”He pouts, taking his thumb out of his mouth. It’s only been an hour with out Sofia and he’s already missing her. They’re so close to each other.
“We’re home!”A familiar voice rings through my ear. I grin and rush to the foyer with Edwin on my hip. I smile once I see the three standing in front of me.”Sis!”
“Mason!”I chuckle, fixing Edwin on my hip so he won’t fall.
“Look at you being a mom.”He teases, gesturing to Edwin whose eyes were widen due to the fact that Mason was here.”Buddy!”
Mason takes Edwin from me and holds him up in the air. The sound of laughter fills my ear. I turn to the other two with a bright smile.”Mommy!”Sofia opens and closes her hands in my direction as if she is trying to grab me. Kyle chuckles at her gesture and hands her over to me.
Her small arms wrap around my face and she places a big wet kiss on my cheek. I laugh and tickle her belly, hearing her giggle. The sound of both of my children’s laughter fills the air. A warm, fuzzy begins to grow in my chest. I put her down and she runs off to Mason and Edwin.
My eyes meet with Kyle’s brown ones and he smiles. He pulls me in his arms and kisses my forehead. I lean my head into his chest.”I have to tell you something.”
We both walk to the kitchen and I give him a small box. He watches me in confusion.”What is this? If this is a present, what’s the occasion? I don’t need any-“
“Just open it.”I smile, widely and place my hand on my stomach. He opens the box and inside is a little baby ornament. He holds it up confused and looks back at me. I bite my lip, hiding my smile and continue holding my stomach.
The look of confusion disappears from his face and a look of excitement and happiness takes over his features.”Really?”A grin begins to grown on his lips.”No way! Oh my god!”He picks me up and pulls me into a tight hug. He suddenly puts me down gently as if I was a piece of glass.
“Is it a boy or a girl?”He questions, excitedly.
I giggle.”It’s too soon to tell but I think you can hear it’s heart beat.”I grab his hand, putting it on my stomach. His lips part and a look of awe is on his face.
“I can hear it’s little heart beat.”He says, sounding in a trance. He lets out a sigh of happiness and caresses my stomach.”My baby.”
“Our baby.”I corrected him with a cheeky smile. He grinned and wrapped his arms around me, carefully. Everything seemed to come in place. I’m happy and with someone that truly makes me happy. I have my two babies and one on the way. After all the bad things that had happened to me so far, everything was at rest.
I’m so surrounded by happiness now.
