Chapter 59

Narrator’s pov

Pavements move as a great river of humanity, the roads rivers of cars. The buildings that had seen the modern age pass, stood in silent witness, weathered rocks stretching toward blue sky.
The gays stood in the London capital, in the canvas of life, the art of each face was something to savour. They were one nation in all their colours and faiths, all British under the spring sunshine, appreciating the golden daffodils who waved from beneath the trees.
There is a pride in the chest of many, for their country who fought nazi ideology, to be one family, to choose love over hate and discrimination. And so.
“This is beautiful” Cytheria whispered as she intertwined her fingers with her girlfriend, stepping out of the car
Luna smiled and took a deep breath in, allowing the fresh air to enter her lungs. Her eyes were tighty shut as she focused on the feeling of her fingers intertwined with Cytheria’s.
The London sun shimmered above like a polished shield, as if it could shelter Luna from her past. Yet the buildings dominated the land and skyline were cold, monochrome – not a hint of green anywhere. The city was so different from her home, so filled with people and busy traffic but it was still beautiful in its many ways.
“Take a photo of us” Cole squealed as he grabbed the shoulder of a random stranger, handing them a camera
The woman smiled politely and brought the camera for her eye, aiming it towards the boy who rubbed his hands all over Ryan’s chest and pecked his cheek, the ocean floated in the background with the sun shining brighty.
The woman’s eyes went wide as they two started to devour each other’s face, not caring if they were in public or not.
Luna chuckled and took the camera from the woman, putting her out of her misery
“Thank you so much, they just miss each other” Luna smiled, the woman nodded and went on with her day
“I swear these two have no self control” Cytheria chuckled
“I KNOW Cytheria GREEN AIN’T TALKING BOUT ME” Cole yelled as he detached his lips from his boyfriend
“I-”
“I walked in on you two having sex on the trunk of Fawn’s car in the parking lot of a football game when it just ended!”
“He got you there” Luna snickered
“Exactly, hush child” The boy playfully glared
“I have nothing to say” Cytheria pretended to zip her lips and threw her arm in a direction which bumped into Dreama’s head
“Owww” Dreama pouted
“I sowwie baby, come here” Cytheria pouted and wrapped her arms around Dreama’s head, pulling her towards her chest
“I feel left out on this best friend affair” Vernon mumbled
“Awww baby come here” Luna mocked her girlfriend
Vernon gave a pout and dramaticly ran towards Luna with her arms out like a child ready to be scooped her by her father. Atleast she got one part right. Wink wink.
“Are we gonna go on this ride or not?” Cole chuckled
“I just realized something, where’s Leo?” Fawn asked
“h-Here!” the dark skinned boy stuttered and emerged from the car. All eyes of the group landed on him
His eyes were still blood shot red while he held a doopy look on his face, he seemed so tired but ready to start the day
“How much did you drink lastnight?”
“No.. The question is. How much did you take lastnight?” Fawn smirked, the gays erupted in laughter as the boy blushed deeply
“Hush up, we just talked” He chuckled
“Talked with your tongues down each other’s throat? Because I saw what happened lastnight” Luna laughed
“I-”
After that lap dance, the guy kept staring at Leo all night, never taking his eyes off him. So right when the group got up to leave, the man headed over to Leo and asked for his number.
They couldn’t hear much from the music being blasted inside the club so they went out into the parking lot and ‘talked’… Talked for a really… Really long time until the gays came out and found them dry humping each other.
They found out the guy’s name was Mike, such a weird name for a hunky beast-
“So when’s the date gonna be?” Ryan asked
“There won’t be a date, he’s flying out to head to Boston tonight and we’re all returning to California tomorrow” Leo pouted
“Awww hunny, come here” Fawn pouted and stretched her arm out, pulling the boy into a hug with her and Nathan
They were all on the platform that was connected to the ocean that rested in front of them. They were on their way to ride the eye of London.
The circular machine stood tall into the air as its compartments whirled around like a Ferris wheel. It actually seemed like a more modern version of a Ferris wheel. The hub of the wheel rested on two supports, which were anchored to a foundation on the riverbank and lean out over the river at an angle of 65° from the horizontal.
With both its supports on the same side of the hub, the wheel was said to be cantilevered over the river. The entirety of the structure was held in place by six backstay cables anchored to a second foundation.
“Has anyone ever fallen out and died on that thing?” Vernon asked the worker
“i-”
“If I stomped hard enough of that glass, would I fall through?” Fawn asked next, the worker’s eyes went wide
“Ma’am-”
“Can we sue you if she dies?” Luna asked
The man sighed and lifted the rope that was blocking the entrance to the machine, he waved his hand and allowed them to go in. They chuckled and walked past, heading towards the empty compartment.
The compartment was an oval shaped machine attached to the circular wheel, there were atleast over 30 carts on the machine.
The gays had one for themselves, there was a thick cushion seat in the middle and the walls were glass, allowing them to see over the horizon of the city when they reached mid air.
When the worker was ready, he allowed the machine to move again when the previous customers were off.
The wheels turned and off they went, slowly circling the Ferris wheel. Their eyes went out on the view they were taking in.
Some parts of the city was now visible from the sky rather than causally walking on the streets. The tiny humans below waved as the compartments went off into the air.
The street was glorious in its inception. The sidewalks were smooth grey stone, joined with such precision that the joints were almost invisible.
The walls were concrete, but not like a villa in rural Spain, they were more the construction of a modernist skyscraper, all sharp edges and corners. The buildings were nothing short of monoliths. All so beautiful from this view that was slowly fading into flickering lights.
Cytheria’s eyes locked onto the horizon of the ocean, her hands gripped the metal banister inside as she took a deep breath in, taking in the beauty of the ocean from mid air. Every drop was inconsequential, nothing in the grandness of the ocean. But when they all move together, as one body- therein lies the power.
From the surface it remained tranquil for many days, months even, but it’s strength is not gone, merely dormant. Below the surface, no matter how still, are unstoppable currents moving unimaginable volumes of briny water many thousands of kilometres.
From above it seemed no more alive than a bucket of water, yet below is more life than the skies above or the land it kisses. Truly it is another world, an alien landscape.
A soft chuckle escaped Cytheria’s lips when she felt a warm body pressed against her own. Luna placed her hand on either side of the girl’s wrist from behind, trapping her body against the glass. Luna’s eyes were locked onto the horizon but her chin rested on Cytheria’s shoulder
“You okay?” she whispered against the girl’s ear
“I’m perfectly okay” she giggled
“This…this sunset is amazing” Luna mumbled
The yellow ball of fire changed to hues of orange, and then almost tangerine. It merged with the sky, like juice-mix dissolving in a glass of water. The clouds were cotton-candy, as though they blushed at the warm touch of the sun.
Silhouettes of birds flew home across a sky that was now magenta and the sun was half into the water, but its reflection in the sea made it look complete. The mauve of the dusky sky intensified, and in just a while, the biggest star had set, giving way to a thousand others.
“It really is” Cytheria whispered and leaned the back of her head into Luna’s chest
“What was it like?” Luna asked causing the girl furrow her brows
“What?”
“What was highschool like after I felt. I want to know everything, tell me about graduation. The prom, everything” Luna whispered
Cytheria chuckled and turned around to face her girlfriend, throwing her arms around Luna’s shoulder. The brown hair girl held her waist, her soft fingers crept under Cytheria’s shirt and rested on her stomach. Goosebumps crawled along her skin feeling the girl’s touch.
It was in moments like these where Cytheria truly remembered how much effect and power Luna had over her.
There was always something special between them from the day they met. There was even a fire the day Luna came back, she was quick to melt, her feelings and anger was tossed out the window the second she laid eyes on the girl.
For she knew that she’d always be in love with Luna Amon to the day she died.
